The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness

In the all-male world in which Todd has grown up, there are a surprising number of
secrets, considering the fact that all male thoughts are audible. When he discovers a
girl in the swamp, the two of them, along with Todd's talking dog, are forced to flee the
thought noise of his town and the sinister men whose desire for power compels them
to cut a path of terror in the New World.

Mrs. R's opinion: "What a strange concept for a book--all male thoughts can be heard at all times. But that concept is part of what makes this book so exciting! When Todd, his dog, and the girl escape and try to find safety in neighboring towns, they inevitably lead an exciting chase that has you turning the pages so quickly. And the ending--what a cliffhanger! So odd plot but definitely an exciting read!"
